Zenith CHRONOMASTER LUPIN THE THIRD

Zenith brought the CHRONOMASTER LUPIN THE THIRD to life in 2019 with its instantly recognisable A384 tonneau-shaped case and a redesign of the distinctive black dial featured in the first episode of the series. The following year, a second model with a white and “panda” dial was launched. Now, the two parties have continued this unique collaboration with the third and final limited edition, which unexpectedly combines the dial designs of the first two models into one.

The dial processing process is complex and lengthy. First, the right side of the dial blank is painted silver-white, and then the black chronograph counters are cut and milled, while the other half of the dial is covered with a layer of transparent colorless varnish for protection. Then, when the other half of the dial is painted black, the original white part is covered with a protective layer. If the protective measures are not taken carefully, the colors will bleed into each other and the dial will be scrapped. To make matters worse, the chronograph counters also need to be painted grey. Therefore, every step in the process is crucial, and any mistake will lead to failure. It is difficult enough to successfully process a dial. Creating a dual dial effect with clear design elements throughout the entire series is almost impossible to achieve, but the final effect is interesting and unique, which is worth giving it a try.

This ingenious dial is paired with a 37mm stainless steel barrel-shaped case, faithfully reproducing the proportions and finishes of the 1969 A384 watch. The stainless steel bracelet equipped with the watch was originally designed by the famous Gay Frères company, and now it adds a touch of vintage style.
